Leavenworth Neighborhood Association: Community Development Success in Midtown
Flower gardens, Christmas cheer for Omaha Public Schools' Jackson Elementary School, park maintenance, health screenings and neighborhood nights out are all programs the Leavenworth Neighborhood Association (LNA) successfully sponsors and supports in Midtown Omaha. Its future vision and present-day commitment make this neighborhood an asset to the community and Midtown.
Among its chief areas of focus, LNA's gears most of its programming toward community development, the importance of literacy in the area and teamwork. LNA's Christmas Cheer program provides every student at Jackson Elementary with a gift bag during the holiday season filled with books, snacks, activity books, crayons and mittens/gloves. These items are collected through neighborhood and other community donations. Other programs focusing on community development include weekly yoga classes sponsored by LNA, neighborhood street party events and community supported flower gardens in the St. Mary's Avenue/Turner Park Boulevard area.
LNA's dedication lies in its mission to continue to grow as a diverse, vibrant and historic community. The neighborhood strives to be aware of the needs of the community and the relationships it must build in order to grow. As it looks towards the future of the neighborhood and community, LNA is working toward a summer capital campaign that funds the unmet necessities of Jackson Elementary. Funds from this campaign will be allocated according to the discretion of the administration at Jackson Elementary and the leadership of LNA.
LNA's focus and commitment to the Leavenworth Neighborhood continues to encourage positive community development in the Midtown area. More information about LNA and its programs can be obtained by contacting Stephanie Ahlschwede at revsteph@cox.net. LNA also distributes monthly newsletters containing information about developments and upcoming activities in the community. Yearly membership in the LNA is $10 per household or $20 per business.
