Four Midtown Neighborhoods Receive Improvement Grants from Mayor

On May 7, Mayor Mike Fahey presented 21 neighborhood associations with grants as part of his 2008 Neighborhood Improvement Grants program at a ceremony in Midtown's Hanscom Park, 3201 Woolworth Ave. The grants of $5,000 or less are given to neighborhood associations as tools to improve public safety and/or the physical appearance of their area.

Four Midtown neighborhood associations received funding including:

Field Club Homeowners League - $5,000 to purchase and install historic lights at the entrance of the Field Club Historic District.Ford Birthsite Neighborhood Association - $2,400 to establish a pilot program to decrease litter by organizing neighborhood involvement and providing extra "dumpster days" once a month. Leavenworth Neighborhood Association - $5,000 to create a public mural on the handball court at Dewey Park in Midtown.Morton Meadows Neighborhood Association - $5,000 to plant new trees throughout the neighborhood. The Neighborhood Improvement Grants program accepts applications each spring and award funds in the early summer.
