Master Plan RenderingMission

The mission of Destination Midtown is to create a premier urban environment where people want to live, work, shop and play.

Vision

The vision of Destination Midtown is to establish a nationally-known, vibrant and distinct urban environment that promotes economic development activities, advances neighborhood goals and forges unique partnerships.

Initiatives

During its first five years, Destination Midtown (DM) made significant progress addressing its top priorities:

  • Economic development (including enhanced mixed-use neighborhood business districts within Midtown)
  • Neighborhood revitalization (including enhanced code enforcement and a stronger Midtown Neighborhood Alliance
  • Transportation/corridor improvements (including exploring the feasibility of major reconstruction to Dodge Street and Saddle Creek Road)

Now, as DM enters its next five year phase, it is re-doubling efforts to return Midtown Omaha to prominence. The Destination Midtown Study, conducted from the fall of 2001 through the spring of 2004 with input from neighborhood stakeholders, continues to serve as the foundation of DM's revitalization campaign. But, as the partnership moves ahead, it is sharpening its focus by implementing a new four-part strategy. Using community economic development as the model, this strategy includes a more concerted effort to impact:

  1. Neighborhood business district growth
  2. Balanced transportation and mixed used development
  3. Employer needs and workforce development
  4. Quality housing development

As DM works to implement this strategy and achieve its goals, it is prepared and eager to act as, among other roles, communicator, facilitator, advocate and recruiter.
