It is a remarkable thing to witness, a community realizing its full potential. Positive change is happening in Midtown Omaha, encouraged by the vision and leadership of Destination Midtown.
A unique partnership linking neighborhood associations, businesses, public and private institutions, Omaha city government and the Greater Omaha Chamber, Destination Midtown is in an unprecedented collaborative community development effort working to raise the quality of life and return Midtown to prominence.
Since 2005, Destination Midtown, in collaboration with its partners:
- Announced over 120 projects in excess of $640 million including new small businesses, expansions and rehabilitation projects.
- Received funding, facilitated and implemented the Park Avenue Redevelopment Study, including an enhanced streetscape along St. Marys Avenue from I-480 to 31st Street and 29th Street from St. Marys Avenue to Leavenworth Street.
- Implemented the Leavenworth District project, a community building project focusing on the Park East and Columbus Park neighborhoods.
- Co-faciliated a neighborhood planning effort in Gifford Park.
- Implemented a comprehensive communications and marketing plan, including ongoing promotion of community needs surrounding neighborhood business district growth, mixed use development, balanced transportation, workforce development and quality housing development.
- Received funding and provided entrepreneurship education to over 55 individuals.
- Completed a retail market analysis for Midtown identifying opportunities for growth.
- Conducted two Midtown Redevelopment Tours.
- Collaborated with the City of Omaha to implement the Midtown Transportation Feasibility Study resulting in key recommendations to enhance transportation corridors including the conversion of Farnam Street to a two-way street between 29th and 36th streets.
- Completed the first phase of the Saddle Creek Road Relocation Feasibility Study.
- Worked with the City of Omaha to increase the efficacy and transparency of code enforcement.
- Received funding and installed 10 Identity Gardens in Midtown neighborhoods.
- Provided home ownership education to over 30 people.
- Conducted two Historic Churches Tours.
- Hosted annual block parties and open houses providing opportunities for neighbors to meet and celebrate Midtown and for local businesses and development projects to showcase their goods, services and projects.
- Provided countless opportunities for public participation including several community forums.
